A developer named Mike Lothian has posted an experimental in-kernel Rust DRM driver called 'Vino' for modern DisplayLink DL3 USB docks, such as the Dell Universal Dock D6000. The driver is a clean-room, reverse-engineered alternative to DisplayLink's official out-of-tree kernel driver and proprietary user-space daemon. Notably, it was written in part using Claude Code with the Opus 4.8 model. The project aims to eventually be upstreamed into the mainline Linux kernel once the necessary Rust prerequisites are in place.
