At least three South African web hosting and network providers — Network Platforms, 1-Grid, and Xneelo — have suffered large-scale DDoS attacks within roughly 24 hours. Network Platforms confirmed receiving ransom demands and reported peak inbound traffic exceeding 300Gbit/s from a UDP flood targeting multiple IP addresses. The company refused to pay and has activated DDoS scrubbing protection for all clients. Xneelo (formerly Hetzner) and 1-Grid also reported significant disruptions, though only Network Platforms has publicly linked its attack to extortion. The clustering of incidents fits the pattern of a ransom DDoS (RDoS) campaign, where attackers target hosting providers to maximize downstream disruption across thousands of customers and pressure victims into paying.
