Fanuc, the world's largest industrial robot manufacturer with 1.1 million robots installed globally, has announced a partnership with Google to integrate Gemini Enterprise and the Intrinsic robotics platform (Flowstate) into its industrial systems. The deal mirrors Google's Android strategy: Intrinsic acts as an OS-like intelligence layer running across multiple robot hardware vendors, while Fanuc's massive installed base provides the scale to establish platform dominance. Fanuc shares surged 16% to a record high on the news. The partnership adds a foundation model layer on top of Fanuc's existing Nvidia-based simulation stack, enabling natural language instructions, object recognition, and autonomous multi-robot coordination. The physical AI market is projected to grow from $1.5B in 2026 to $15.2B by 2032, and the deal positions Google Cloud to capture a share of the multi-trillion-dollar manufacturing and logistics sector.
