# File Pilot does something Windows File Explorer refuses to do, and it's the only reason I need it

## Summary

File Pilot is a lightweight (~2 MB) third-party Windows file manager that addresses key shortcomings of Windows File Explorer. It offers multi-pane split views, saveable layouts, session management, visible folder sizes by default, extensive UI customization (fonts, themes, spacing, animations), and a keyboard-driven command palette. Unlike File Explorer, it shows the full context menu without extra clicks and is free of Copilot, OneDrive, and Microsoft 365 promotions. Currently in beta, it runs as a portable or installed app and is notably faster and more responsive than the native tool.
