# Firefox is dead to me

**[The Register](https://daily.dev/sources/theregister)** · 5 min read · 56 upvotes · 22 comments

## Summary

Firefox faces mounting challenges including performance issues, website compatibility problems, controversial privacy policy changes, and Mozilla's strategic pivot toward AI. The browser struggles with JavaScript-heavy sites, memory usage problems, and slower performance compared to competitors like Chrome. Mozilla has discontinued useful services like Pocket and Fakespot while laying off employees and maintaining heavy financial dependence on Google for 90% of its revenue. Firefox's market share has dropped to just 1.9% according to US government analytics, leading to questions about its long-term viability.

> I use it as my primary browser for both personal and professional and have little to know real world issues. Once in awhile I'll stumble upon a site that is using something for chrome only, or some styles wont work, but every app built to do work, works.

> The dev experience coming from chrome, sucks comparatively (dev tools that is) but I feel that's mostly a me problem not diving in deep to learn the tooling.

> the privacy concerns and pivoting towards AI are red-flags for me. It must be extraordinarily difficult to try and maintain a browser in todays chromium world. How do you gain a profit...

> I still daily drive Firefox, but anyone looking for something fresh, check out Vivaldi or Zen Browser. Chrome and Edge are still spyware and I refuse to give up any privacy for performance.

> The stupid thing is a lot of these sites magically work fine if you change your user agent and spoof webkit. Some of this is downright lazy developers not properly browser testing.
