# Firefox is the Only Alternative

## Summary

Almost all browsers these days are built on top of Chromium, Chrome's open-source version. Chrome and Safari control about 85% of the browser market share. Microsoft’s Edge commands only about 4%. Firefox is the only alternative to a complete Chrome hegemony. Google are going to be in complete control of web standards unless something drastically changes.

> At the end of the day, Edge and Chrome work better, use less battery, and keep up with standards far better. Firefox is sadly doomed. Chromium is essentially the new OS. Even Linux vs WIndows is kinda irrelevant now to 99% of users who just use the OS to launch a Chromium-based browser.

> Interesting article. I haven't used FF for so long, I'm not sure I really remember why I went back to Chrome. I think it was the ease of syncing between all my devices. If FF has improved, I'll certainly give it a go.
