Fish 4.6 has been released with support for the SHELL_PROMPT_PREFIX, SHELL_PROMPT_SUFFIX, and SHELL_WELCOME environment variables introduced by systemd in 2024. These variables allow systemd tools like run0 to automatically prepend/append to the left prompt and display welcome messages on startup. The release also includes better emoji width handling, left-justified tab completion pager descriptions, set_color improvements, and other minor enhancements.
