# Fixing The Damage Of A Botched SNES SuperCIC Mod

**[Hackaday](https://daily.dev/sources/hackaday)** · 2 min read · 0 upvotes · 0 comments

## Summary

A Super Nintendo console arrived with a badly executed SuperCIC mod chip installation, featuring ripped CIC pads, a solder bridge on S-PPU1, and poor wiring throughout. After cleaning up the mess and completing the SuperCIC mod using a PIC16F630, burn-in testing revealed VRAM issues traced back to the solder bridge between pins 25 and 26 on S-PPU1, which had forced 5V into an unintended pin. Replacing the damaged S-PPU1 chip with one from a donor board resolved the graphical artifacts, restoring the console to working order. The takeaway: SNES modding requires real soldering skill, as mistakes can destroy hard-to-replace chips like the S-PPU1.
