# Flathub’s AI slop ban looks like it was the right call

**[omg\! ubuntu\!](https://daily.dev/sources/omgub)** · 3 min read · 3 upvotes · 2 comments

## Summary

Flathub's ban on AI-generated app submissions appears vindicated by new data: 73% of the 120 rejected repositories are already abandoned, with many having deleted their source code entirely. Developer Evangelos Paterakis analyzed the rejected apps and found only 32 still show signs of active development. While the methodology isn't rigorous, the findings support Flathub's concern that volunteer reviewers would waste time on low-quality, unmaintained submissions. The data suggests AI tools have mostly produced simplistic, short-lived apps — Pomodoro timers, note-taking tools, local AI wrappers — rather than the wave of quality software proponents promised.

> This seems less like an anti-AI rule and more like protecting volunteer maintainers from throwaway apps. If the author won’t keep the source and support the project, reviewers shouldn’t be left holding the bag.

> Who would've thought that when you give people the magical tool to do anything they want in an area they know nothing about, everyone ends up drowning in repetitve, low quality slop. Add to that the constant AI marketing that anyone will be able to do what we do - funny. Perhaps on the surface, but that's just apperences - "oh look, I made an app in 30 minutes...". Oh look, I hacked it in one. 😉 It takes a lot more than spouting out code to create reliable software.

Oh look, I hacked it in one. 😉 It takes a lot more than spouting out code to create reliable software.\nThis is also the very same reason only a handful of engineers become entrepreneurs - it’s not only about the ability to create something. It’s about creating something that’s needed, doing it in a safe and efficient manner and having the wits and resources to actually make people use it (and pay for it).\nYou cannot just create something and expect profits just because is exists. It’s the same with vibe coding - you cannot just vibe code something into existance and expect everyone will praise you - there’s line, go to the end and wait until it’s your turn. If you’re observant enough, you’ll see it was all pointless because of what the people before you already did and just move on before taking everyone’s time. 😑","datePublished":"2026-07-19T08:51:23.195Z","url":"https://daily.dev/posts/89U0BV0XH#c-A7v30w0au","author":{"@type":"Person","name":"Peter Mrożek","url":"https://daily.dev/petermrozek","image":"https://media.daily.dev/image/upload/s--pBfYX68K--/f_auto/v1769247960/avatars/avatar_Qz65P1nVw3Bu6C5YwaZgA?_a=BAMAMiiu0"},"interactionStatistic":{"@type":"InteractionCounter","interactionType":{"@type":"LikeAction"},"userInteractionCount":1}}]}
