# FlipBuddy Is Borg, You Will Be Assimilated

**[Hackaday](https://daily.dev/sources/hackaday)** · 2 min read · 0 upvotes · 0 comments

## Summary

FlipBuddy is an open-source, ESP32-based desk cube that tracks time by detecting which face is placed upward using an MPU6050 accelerometer. Each face is assigned a task; flipping the cube starts a new session, which is pushed to the cloud via WiFi without needing a phone. The hardware includes an ESP32 S3 SuperMini, MPU6050, six WS2812B LEDs, and a Li-Po battery, all housed in a 3D-printed origami mesh enclosure that folds flat. Source code and 3D models are available openly, and a companion app provides session insights.

## Questions this post answers

### What hardware components does the FlipBuddy time-tracking cube use?

FlipBuddy uses an ESP32 (S3 SuperMini or similar), an MPU6050 accelerometer, six WS2812B LEDs, and a 3.7 V Li-Po battery. The enclosure is a 3D-printed origami mesh that prints as a single flat piece and is folded around the internals. Each cube face is assigned a task, and placing a face upward wakes the device, connects to WiFi, and logs the session to the cloud.
