Key upgrades include a full CNC-machined aluminum chassis, a 74Wh battery with claimed 20+ hour life, a 2880×1920 120Hz touchscreen display, haptic trackpad, and Intel Core Ultra Series 3 (Panther Lake) or AMD AI 300 series chips. Memory goes up to 64GB LPCAMM2 LP-DDR5X and storage up to 8TB PCIe Gen 5 NVMe. Notably, it's the first Framework laptop to ship with Linux pre-installed and receive Ubuntu certification, with firmware updates via fwupd/LVFS. The Ubuntu configuration has reportedly outsold Windows since launch. Pricing starts at $1,199 for DIY, with shipping beginning June 2026. The Laptop 16 also received updates including a one-piece keyboard and haptic touchpad. ## Content Framework has announced the Laptop 13 Pro, a ground-up redesign of its 13-inch modular laptop targeting developers and Linux power users. ## What's actually new The chassis is now full CNC-machined aluminum, which addresses the rigidity complaints about the older plastic design. The battery grows to 74Wh (about 20% larger), with Framework claiming 20+ hours of 4K streaming. The display is a custom 13.5-inch 2880×1920 IPS panel running at up to 120Hz with variable refresh down to 30Hz and 700 nits brightness - touchscreen included. The trackpad is now haptic. On the silicon side, it's the first Framework laptop with Intel Core Ultra Series 3 (Panther Lake) chips, with options ranging from Ultra 5 to Ultra X9. AMD AI 300 series is also available. Memory uses LPCAMM2 modules up to 64GB of LP-DDR5X. Storage goes up to 8TB via PCIe Gen 5 NVMe. Connectivity is four Thunderbolt 4 ports plus Wi-Fi 7. One person who upgraded from the older Framework 13 put it plainly: best PC trackpad they've used, keyboard is much improved, display no longer wobbles, and the whole thing feels significantly more premium. ## Linux support This is the first Framework laptop to ship with Linux pre-installed and the first to receive Ubuntu certification, meaning out-of-the-box support is guaranteed rather than hoped for. Firmware updates work through fwupd/LVFS, and Framework is now an LVFS sponsor. Apparently the Ubuntu configuration has outsold the Windows version since launch, which says something. ## Pricing - DIY edition starts at $1,199 - Pre-built (Windows) starts at $1,499 - Pre-built Ubuntu starts at £2,009 (Intel) or £3,009 (AMD) in the UK Shipping begins June 2026, with some configurations shipping from July. ## The chassis kit option If you already own an older Framework 13, there's a "Laptop 13 Pro Chassis Kit" that lets you move your existing mainboard, memory, SSD, and port modules into the new chassis. You get the aluminum body, better speakers, improved battery life, brighter touchscreen, and the haptic trackpad without buying a whole new machine. The mainboard and its components don't transfer automatically - you do that yourself. The kit is currently out of stock, but it's worth watching if you want the upgrade without the full price. ## Laptop 16 updates Framework also refreshed the Laptop 16 with a one-piece keyboard, haptic touchpad, a new bezel color option, and AMD Ryzen 5 configurations.
