The FreeBSD core team (core@) implemented the freeze to limit the number of commits that need to be rewritten during cleanup. The commit also introduced a blob with questionable licensing into the repository history. The team is working on removing the offending commits, restoring GitHub mirroring, and will provide instructions for existing checkouts to catch up.
