AMD has announced FSR 4.1 upscaling support will come to RDNA 3 (Radeon RX 7000) GPUs in July 2026, with RDNA 2 (RX 6000) support following in early 2027. Previously exclusive to RDNA 4 hardware, this expansion changes the value proposition of older Radeon cards significantly. The RX 7900 XT in particular becomes a compelling buy again — it already offers more VRAM (20GB) and a wider memory bus than the RX 9070 XT, and now gains the key feature that was holding it back. Caveats include: ML-based frame generation and Ray Regeneration remain RDNA 4 exclusives, and RDNA 2 cards will face a 10–20% performance overhead running FSR 4 vs FSR 3. The author argues that many RX 7000 owners who upgraded to the RX 9070 XT primarily for FSR 4 access may have done so prematurely.
