GentleOS/16 is a hobby operating system designed for vintage 16-bit PCs, requiring only an 8086+ CPU, 192 KB of RAM, and a CGA display. It is monolithic, mostly compile-time configured, and supports only CGA/VGA, keyboard, and PC speaker. A sibling project, GentleOS/32, targets i386 hardware with 4 MB RAM and VGA output. Both projects aim to provide a simple platform for tinkering with retro hardware and running graphical apps on bare metal.
