A hands-on conference talk covering practical use of the OpenTelemetry Collector to manage, enrich, and transform telemetry data. Covers 16 scenarios including: batching logs, enriching log lines with host/OS metadata, fixing timestamps, setting severity levels dynamically, redacting sensitive data (passwords, user IDs), filtering logs by severity to control costs, adding ownership/chargeback metadata, converting log fields into real metrics using the signal-to-metrics connector, parsing CSV and JSON-L files, and routing logs conditionally to different backends. Also introduces the OpenTelemetry Transformation Language (OTTL), the OpAMP management protocol for managing fleets of collectors, and advice on choosing between vendor distributions vs. building a custom collector with OCB.
