## Summary

Keploy is an open-source API and integration testing tool that auto-generates tests and mocks from real traffic. It records API calls, database queries, and streaming events, then replays them as tests without requiring code changes or SDKs. It uses eBPF at the network layer, making it language-agnostic across Go, Java, Node.js, Python, Rust and more. It also virtualizes infrastructure like Postgres, MySQL, MongoDB, Kafka and RabbitMQ, and uses AI with OpenAPI schemas to expand test coverage by finding boundary values and edge cases. Setup is a single install script followed by `keploy record` and `keploy test` commands.

## Questions this post answers

### How does Keploy generate API tests without modifying application code?

Keploy uses eBPF to capture network traffic at the kernel level, recording real API calls, database queries, and streaming events, then replays them as tests and mocks. Because interception happens at the network layer rather than through SDKs, it works across languages like Go, Java, Python, Node.js, Rust, and more without requiring code changes.

_daily.dev surfaces tools like this for teams weighing code-less approaches to API test generation._

### Can Keploy mock non-HTTP dependencies like databases and message queues for testing?

Yes, Keploy virtualizes infrastructure beyond HTTP endpoints, recording and replaying Postgres, MySQL, MongoDB, Kafka, and RabbitMQ interactions deterministically. This lets tests run without re-provisioning real infrastructure, since recorded database queries and streaming events are captured and replayed alongside API calls.

> recording at the network layer is great until your payloads have timestamps or UUIDs in them, then replay fails on literal diff even though the behavior's identical. curious if keploy has field masking built in or you have to hand-write matchers for that.

> Recording at the network layer is clever, because it means the same generated tests cover a Postgres call and a Kafka publish without anyone writing a wrapper for either. Freezing time alongside the mocks is a detail I'd have expected to be missing. What's it like to debug when a replay diverges from the recording, does it tell you which dependency drifted or just that the output differs?
