The existing gh-copilot CLI extension will be deprecated in October 2025. ## Content GitHub has announced the general availability of the GitHub Copilot coding agent for all paid subscribers. This autonomous AI developer can handle a range of tasks including feature implementation, bug fixing, managing technical debt, and improving test coverage. By operating asynchronously in its own development environment, the Copilot creates draft pull requests for review. In addition to this rollout, GitHub has announced the deprecation of the existing gh-copilot CLI extension scheduled for October 25, 2025. It will be replaced by a new GitHub Copilot CLI offering enhanced AI capabilities. Pro and Enterprise users are encouraged to transition to the new CLI tool, while free plan users can adopt Visual Studio Code's Ask mode or the gh-models extension as alternatives. The mobile application now allows users to initiate new coding tasks and receive progress notifications. A centralized 'Agents' page within the app provides an overview of all Copilot task statuses. The GitHub Copilot CLI has also entered public preview, providing AI coding assistance in the terminal. Another significant release is GitHub Copilot Spaces, now generally available. Spaces allow developers to provide Copilot with contextual information from files, pull requests, and repositories, making responses more project-specific. Lastly, GitHub Copilot can now create issues with embedded code snippets in public preview.
