GitHub announced the GitHub Copilot app at Microsoft Build 2026, a desktop experience designed as a control center for agent-native development. Key features include a 'My Work' view for managing multiple parallel agent sessions, each running in isolated git worktrees; 'Canvases' as bidirectional work surfaces where agents and developers collaborate visibly; cloud and local sandboxes for secure agent execution; Agent Merge for automated PR review and merging; and enhanced Copilot code review with medium-tier routing to higher-reasoning models, custom agent skills, and MCP server connections. The GitHub Copilot SDK is now generally available in Node.js/TypeScript, Python, Go, .NET, Rust, and Java. Copilot CLI gets a redesigned TUI, voice input, and scheduled tasks. Partner agent apps from LaunchDarkly, PagerDuty, Amplitude, and others are also integrated. GitHub reports commits nearly doubled year-over-year, crossing 1.4 billion per month.
