# GitHub Copilot has a free plan now

## Summary

GitHub has introduced a free plan for its Copilot tool, exclusively available for Visual Studio Code users, in response to rising industry competition and startup forks of the IDE.

## Content

GitHub has just launched a free plan that is available only for VS Code.

I guess this is a result of the massive competition going on in the industry right now. VS Code is being forked by startups to build their own AI powered IDE.

Backed by Microsoft, GitHub is able to push the competition aside.
