GitHub Copilot in Visual Studio 2026 received several new features in May 2026. Key additions include a Plan agent that lets developers collaborate with Copilot on an implementation plan before writing code, saving plans as markdown files. A new Skills panel lists all agent skills from the workspace. Multi-file diff summaries allow reviewing and accepting/undoing Copilot changes at file or chunk level. A context window usage indicator shows how much of the prompt budget is consumed, with a summarize option to free space. Commits can now be attached directly as context in Copilot Chat. Commit message instructions moved to the repository's Copilot custom instructions file. C++ incremental build optimization detection was also improved.
