GNOME 51 is removing EGLStreams/EGLDevice support from Mutter, the GNOME compositor. EGLStreams was NVIDIA's original Wayland integration path, but it never gained broad adoption outside NVIDIA. Since NVIDIA has long since moved to the standard DMA-BUF, GBM, and KMS approach used by the rest of the Linux graphics ecosystem, the legacy code is now being cleaned up. The removal simplifies the Mutter codebase while having no practical impact on modern NVIDIA driver users.
