GNOME Boxes is getting a complete rewrite by its sole developer Felipe Borges, moving from GTK3 to GTK4 and Libadwaita with a Flatpak-only distribution model. Key improvements include automatic Windows 11 installation with Secure Boot and virtual TPM support, a redesigned Properties dialog with seven sections, VSOCK-based SSH access to guests, and early port forwarding. The beta is available via the GNOME Nightly Flatpak repo, though some rough edges remain including an EndeavourOS installation error and a VM crash during snapshot testing.
