GNOME Mutter 51 and GNOME Shell 51 beta versions have been released with several notable improvements. Mutter 51 adds Wayland ext-background-effect-v1 blur support enabling background blur effects in terminals and other apps, adopts the upstream xdg_session_management_v1 protocol, and includes multiple frame scheduling improvements by Michel Dänzer. It also fixes blurred rendering on non-pixel-aligned monitors, adds button scrolling support, and can now hide the cursor during input capture. GNOME Shell 51 Beta introduces initial 'reduced-motion' setting support, SVG-based cursor implementations matching KDE's format, improved keyboard navigation for screenshot area selection, and support for web login with a unified authentication mechanism.
