# Go's Improving SIMD Support, Platform-Independent SIMD Interface

**[Phoronix](https://daily.dev/sources/phoronix)** · 1 min read · 6 upvotes · 0 comments

## Summary

Go's experimental SIMD support continues to evolve. Introduced in Go 1.26 with x86_64 AVX support, Go 1.27 expanded coverage to ARM64 NEON and added a fully portable, platform-and-size-agnostic SIMD interface modeled on Google's Highway library. The SIMD package currently supports AVX, AVX2, AVX-512, Arm NEON, and WASM SIMD instructions. Go 1.28 is planned to add Arm SVE support along with more SIMD operations to the portable interface.

## Questions this post answers

### What SIMD instruction sets does Go 1.27 support?

Go 1.27 supports AVX, AVX2, and AVX-512 on x86_64, Arm NEON on ARM64, and WASM SIMD instructions. It also introduced a fully portable, platform and size-agnostic SIMD interface modeled around Google's Highway library, letting code work across these varying architectures and fixed-size vector implementations without rewriting per-platform logic.

_Developers tracking SIMD support across Go versions can follow these platform changes on daily.dev._

### When did Go add SIMD support and what changed between versions?

Go 1.26 introduced experimental SIMD APIs targeting x86_64 features like AVX. Go 1.27 expanded that to ARM64 with NEON support and added a portable SIMD interface abstracting over architecture differences. Go 1.28 is planned to add Arm SVE support plus additional operations to the portable interface.

_Anyone planning a Go upgrade around SIMD features can track these version changes on daily.dev._
