Nearly two years after a federal court ruled Google an illegal search monopolist, no meaningful remedies have taken effect. Google continues operating under the same practices deemed illegal, while its data advantage compounds daily and extends into AI. The newly introduced SEARCH Act, sponsored by Senators Klobuchar and Schmitt, aims to address both pillars of Google's monopoly: prohibiting paid default agreements and requiring Google to share search data with rivals. DuckDuckGo and several advocacy organizations publicly endorse the bill, urging Congress to pass it without waiting for the slow-moving court remedies process.
