Google has joined the Eclipse Foundation as a Strategic Member as of April 2026, deepening its investment in open source developer infrastructure. As part of the collaboration, Google is sponsoring Open VSX and is among the first adopters of the new Open VSX Managed Registry — an open source, vendor-neutral extension registry for VS Code-compatible tools. Open VSX now serves 300M+ downloads per month and powers AI-integrated IDEs including Google Antigravity, AWS Kiro, Cursor, and Windsurf. Google will participate in the Eclipse Foundation's Board of Directors and Technical Advisory Council, and will also support initiatives like Open Regulatory Compliance (ORC) and Adoptium.
