Google announced Pics at Google I/O 2026, a new AI-powered design and image generation app integrated into Google Workspace. Targeting non-designers like teachers and small business owners, Pics lets users create social media graphics, invitations, and marketing materials via text prompts. Powered by Gemini and the Nano Banana 2 model, it differentiates itself by making every element of a generated image fully editable — users can click specific parts to modify them or edit text directly, addressing a common pain point with AI image generation. The app launches to testers at I/O and will roll out to Google AI Ultra subscribers this summer, positioning Google against Canva and Anthropic's Claude Design.
