Gemini 3.5 Pro has been repeatedly delayed with no confirmed release date, Gemini 3.5 Flash was seen as expensive and token-heavy, and Gemini 3.6 Flash was considered inferior to its predecessor. Leaked plans for a 3.7 Flash were reportedly cancelled at the last minute, and Gemma 4 120B is also said to be cancelled. The author argues Google has fallen far behind competitors after the high point of Gemini 2.5 Pro. ## Content The Gemini 3.5 Pro got delayed multiple times, and at this point we don't know whether Google will ever release it. Maybe they will release Gemini 4 directly. Gemini 3.5 Flash was underwhelming: it burnt tokens and was really expensive for a flash model. They followed that up with Gemini 3.6 Flash, which was even more underwhelming and was an undercooked model, and was significantly inferior than the 3.5 model. Leaks suggested that we were supposed to get a 3.7 Flash last week, but Google again pulled the plug at the last moment. And now, news suggest that Gemma 4 120B is cancelled as well. What is Google doing? They are clearly miles behind, and catching up again will definitely be a difficult job.
