Google announced native Android app creation capabilities in Google AI Studio, enabling anyone to build Android apps in minutes using a web browser. Apps are built with Kotlin and Jetpack Compose, support hardware sensors (GPS, Bluetooth, NFC), and can be previewed via an embedded Android Emulator. Currently apps are for personal use only, with publishing for family/friends on the roadmap. Google also announced an 'Ask Play' AI overlay for app discovery in the Play Store, and Gemini will surface apps to millions of users. The move positions Google to compete with AI coding tools like Cursor, Replit, and Lovable while opening Android development to non-technical creators.
