# Greece's flexible approach to Europe biometric entry system

**[The Register](https://daily.dev/sources/theregister)** · 3 min read · 0 upvotes · 0 comments

## Summary

Greece is taking a flexible approach to the EU's biometric Entry/Exit System (EES), which became compulsory on 10 April 2026. Greek authorities have indicated they will not collect biometric data (fingerprints and photos) from UK travellers, after some British passengers missed flights due to border control delays. Airlines including Easyjet and Ryanair have reported wait times of two to three hours, and industry groups are calling for border authorities to be allowed to fully suspend EES when queues become excessive. As of 10 April, EES had registered over 52 million entries and exits and refused entry to more than 27,000 individuals. A Travel to Europe app exists to pre-register, but only Sweden and Portugal currently accept it.
