# Gritt exits stealth with $34 million for robots to build solar plants—then, everything else

## Summary

Gritt, a robotics startup founded by two Carnegie Mellon-trained roboticists, has exited stealth with $34 million in total funding ($26M Series A led by Obvious Ventures). The company uses off-the-shelf hardware — rented skidders and robotic arms from manufacturers like Kawasaki — controlled by its own AI models to automate solar panel installation. A typical 8-person crew installs 800 panels per day, but with Gritt's systems that same crew can install 3,000–4,000 panels daily. The company is contracted to help install 2.8 gigawatts of solar panels in the next 18 months and counts three of the top 10 US power construction companies as customers. Unlike competitors such as Luminous Robotics and Cosmic that build their own hardware, Gritt focuses on software and AI to control commodity hardware. Long-term, the company plans to expand into other construction tasks like rebar tying and rack assembly, while also providing site intelligence for management decisions.
