A Google Summer of Code 2026 midterm recap covering Bluetooth stack improvements in the Haiku operating system. Work completed includes updating HCI commands and events from outdated Bluetooth 2.x specs to modern standards, adding a friendly device name setting, implementing inquiry cancellation with UI support, refactoring connection state management to eliminate UI freezes, building a watching/notification system so apps can receive remote device state changes, implementing link key storage so paired devices are remembered across sessions, and beginning work on an SDP client. The next milestone is completing the SDP client and then implementing the HID Bluetooth profile to support mice and keyboards.
