In a significant update, Haiku OS has aligned its FreeBSD driver compatibility layer with FreeBSD 15.0, bringing in the latest Ethernet and WiFi driver improvements. The updates are part of a broader series of enhancements that were carried out in December 2025, as the team gears up for the upcoming Beta 6 release.
The driver updates aren’t the only improvements Haiku OS received. The development activities over December included a slew of enhancements across various components, such as application fixes with new Terminal hyperlink support, MediaPlayer playlist corrections, and HiDPI enhancements in the ProcessController.
For hardware support, beyond the updated FreeBSD drivers, Haiku OS saw improvements in Elantech touchpad functionality and mouse driver performance. There is also significant progress in file-system capabilities, with advancements in BFS file-system resizing and improved timestamp handling, as well as a resolution to a FAT double-lock issue.
Kernel component enhancements have not been overlooked, with efforts focused on better network booting within the EFI loader, refined TCP RST handling, and the crucial memory leak fixes. A notable new feature is the inclusion of an EFI loader installation tool in the Installer, which promises to ease the system installation process. Additionally, basic ARM serial output fixes were implemented, further expanding the hardware compatibility.
With the Beta 6 release on the horizon, the Haiku team is committed to addressing the remaining regressions over the next month or two, ensuring that the new update is stable and efficient for all users.
