The shift was made possible by two key changes: the elimination of IRA tax credit requirements (which previously penalized Chinese-sourced LFP cells), and advances in cell-to-pack construction that improve volumetric energy density. LFP cells are roughly 40% cheaper than NMC, charge to 100% with less degradation risk, and are now used by Ford, GM, Rivian, and Tesla.
