The UK energy regulator Ofgem only publishes the current energy price cap online, not historical data. After submitting a Freedom of Information request, the author received a comprehensive spreadsheet of historic electricity price cap figures by region. The raw Excel file had formatting quirks including 13 decimal places of precision and inconsistent date formats. The author used R to clean the data, standardize date columns, round values, and export as CSV. Both the original and tidied versions are available for download under the Open Government Licence 3.0.
