How Can Enterprise Data Center Customers Power the AI Era, Without Powering Up Emissions

Data centers powering the AI era consume enormous energy, with U.S. demand projected to double to 66 GW by 2027. A key but underexplored lever is how enterprise customers architect their systems. Legacy always-on, polling-based architectures waste 60–80% of server power during idle periods and force costly over-provisioning. Shifting to event-driven architectures using event mesh and agent mesh patterns allows systems to react only when relevant events occur, reducing idle compute, decoupling system speeds, and enabling AI workloads to be processed more efficiently — cutting both infrastructure strain and energy consumption without sacrificing performance.
