# How NetworkManager uses eBPF to support CLAT and IPv6-mostly

## Summary

NetworkManager 1.58 in RHEL 10.3 introduces native CLAT (customer-side translator) support using eBPF to enable IPv6-mostly networks. IPv6-mostly allows capable clients to operate in IPv6-only mode while legacy devices continue using IPv4, providing a practical migration path away from dual-stack. The implementation uses DHCPv4 Option 108 (RFC 8925) for signaling, 464XLAT for IPv4-over-IPv6 translation, and DNS64/NAT64 for transparent connectivity. The eBPF program attaches to the TC subsystem to perform stateless SIIT packet translation in both ingress and egress paths, handling checksum recalculation, fragmentation, and ICMP error message translation. Configuration parameters are passed via BPF global variables, and the CLAT address is intentionally hidden from the interface to prevent routing conflicts with native IPv6 traffic.
