The author argues context management is often a bigger bottleneck than model capability when building production-grade agentic systems. ## Content I have been talking a lot about Agentic Engineering lately, and one thing keeps coming up: **building an AI agent is easy compared to making it work at scale**. I came across this interesting engineering story from Postman and AWS. Postman wanted to build Agent Mode - an AI-native experience for its 40 million developers. You'd think the biggest challenge would be choosing the right LLM or writing better prompts, right? **Well, not really.** The real challenges were much deeper: integrating agents into an existing product, managing too many tools, and figuring out how to give agents the right context without overwhelming them. **Three things caught my attention:** - _Too many tools can become a problem._ - _Structured, schema-based access matters._ - _Context is often a bigger bottleneck than model capability._ That last point is something I keep coming back to in Agentic Engineering. We spend so much time discussing smarter models, but getting agents to understand the systems they're working with is a whole different engineering problem.
