SmugMug, the paid image hosting platform that also owns Flickr, faced limited visibility into email authentication and deliverability risks. Without proper DMARC enforcement, legitimate transactional and security emails risked being routed to spam as Google and Yahoo tightened requirements for high-volume senders. SmugMug adopted EasyDMARC to centralize DMARC record management and used EasySPF to flatten overly complex SPF records that were exceeding DNS lookup limits. Onboarding involved a gradual policy ramp-up of ~10% per day over two weeks. Post-implementation results included higher inbox placement rates, reduced domain impersonation, and improved reliability for critical security and account emails.
