The Gradle team shares their experience adopting Isolated Projects, an experimental feature that parallelizes project configuration to speed up builds. The migration required Configuration Cache compatibility, convention plugins, and artifact sharing via dependency management. After a phased rollout starting with volunteers, the team measured real-world impact: IDE sync times roughly halved (median dropped from ~84s to ~47s), with the 95th percentile falling from nearly 7 minutes to just over 3. Benchmarks show 1.7× speedup for adding a dependency and 2.3× for changing build logic. The feature is now the daily driver for local workflows, with CI adoption still in progress. Isolated Projects is expected to graduate from experimental to incubating soon.
