# How to get engineering time back from Kubernetes upgrades

Kubernetes upgrades consume significant senior engineering time — often four to six weeks per minor upgrade across regions — crowding out product roadmap work. The argument is that for most organizations, delegating Kubernetes lifecycle management to a dedicated SRE team or managed service reclaims engineering capacity for customer-facing work.
