# How to get operational data off the factory floor without creating an IT breach

**[The New Stack](https://daily.dev/sources/newstack)** · 3 min read · 0 upvotes · 0 comments

## Summary

Moving operational technology (OT) data from factory floors into IT systems is a growing challenge in the AI era, as OT systems like PLCs, SCADA platforms, and historian databases were designed for uptime rather than connectivity. Custom scripts and legacy FTP/SFTP tools introduce security risks, brittle transfers, and lack auditability. Fortra GoAnywhere MFT is presented as a managed solution offering encryption, continuous monitoring, and full audit trails for OT-to-IT data movement. A webinar on June 23 will cover the IT/OT connectivity gap, why DIY approaches fail, and how secure managed file transfer addresses both data movement and security concerns.
