# How to work with coding agents from your phone

**[Flavio Copes](https://daily.dev/sources/flaviocopes)** · 18 min read · 1 upvotes · 1 comments

## Summary

Developers can run coding agents like Codex, Claude Code, Jules, Cursor, and Copilot from a phone by choosing either a cloud session or remote control of their own machine. The post compares each tool's mobile setup: Codex pairs via QR code in ChatGPT settings, Claude Code offers cloud sessions or a 'claude remote-control' command, and Jules runs tasks in a VM. Tools like Happy, HAPI, and OpenCode add mobile or browser interfaces to agents you already run, while Termux lets you try running an agent locally on Android. The author recommends starting with the mobile interface of whichever agent you already use, since a local setup requires keeping your computer awake while a cloud session runs independently.

## Questions this post answers

### How do I use Claude Code remotely from my phone while my laptop keeps running it?

Run 'claude remote-control' from the project directory on your computer, or type '/remote-control' inside an already running Claude Code session. Then connect from the Claude app on iOS or Android using the session link, QR code, or session list. This requires an eligible Claude subscription; an Anthropic API key alone does not enable it, and the computer must stay on and the process running.

### What's the difference between a cloud coding agent and remote control of my own computer?

A cloud agent runs entirely in the provider's development environment, so it keeps working even if your laptop sleeps or loses connection, while remote control reaches an agent running on your own machine, meaning that computer and its agent process must stay online and awake. Tools like Codex, Claude Code, and Cursor support both modes, and the local filesystem and configured tools only stay available with the remote-control option.

_Anyone deciding between cloud and local AI agent setups can weigh these trade-offs on daily.dev._

### Can I run a coding agent locally on an Android phone with Termux?

Yes, Termux provides an Android terminal with packages like Git, OpenSSH, and Node.js, letting you experiment with running an agent directly on the phone when its dependencies support that environment. Compatibility needs checking first since a desktop CLI can depend on native binaries built for another OS, and Android's Doze and App Standby features can defer background activity, so test with the screen locked before relying on a long run.

> Reviewing a broad refactor across many files on a phone makes the small screen and constant switching cost you the surrounding context. A change with a clean boundary stays reviewable at any screen size; one without it was always a review you were doing on trust and a quick scroll. The phone just removes the option of skimming to the bottom and hoping.
