A quantitative analysis of how technician cross-training affects field service routing efficiency. Using a Los Angeles dataset with 1,012 service visits and 253 technicians, three upskilling scenarios were benchmarked: 1 skill (baseline), 2 skills, and 3 skills per technician. Adding a second skill reduces travel time by 23%, saving roughly $4,400 per technician annually. Full cross-training adds another 17% reduction worth $3,400 per technician per year. Even partial upskilling of half the workforce yields a 14% travel time reduction and $5,600 ROI per trained technician — a useful lever for phased rollout decisions.
