HP is integrating Tailscale directly into its Remote System Controller (RSC), an out-of-band management platform built on Ubuntu and NVIDIA Jetson hardware. The integration makes each RSC device a native Tailscale node, allowing administrators to securely reach management interfaces through their existing tailnet without exposing them to the public internet or relying on centralized VPN infrastructure. The post explains the reliability math behind dependency chains — chaining seven 99.9%-available components yields only ~99.3% overall uptime, roughly 61 hours of downtime per year — and argues that out-of-band management is only useful if its recovery path is independent of the failing infrastructure. The integration also reduces firewall complexity for large deployments by replacing multiple outbound rules to AWS IoT, TURN, and HP service endpoints with a single tailnet connectivity model. The feature ships via firmware update and supports both interactive auth and auth-key enrollment.
