# I blamed thick walls for my Wi-Fi dead spots until I found the router setting nobody checks

## Summary

Router transmit power defaults to maximum out of the box, which can actually cause Wi-Fi dead spots rather than fix them. When a router blasts at full power, client devices like phones and laptops can hear it clearly but struggle to reply at the same strength, creating an asymmetric connection. Running two routers at full power compounds the problem by causing signal overlap and interference, especially on the crowded 2.4GHz band. Reducing transmit power to a balanced setting — not minimum, not maximum — eliminates overlap between access points, reduces channel congestion from neighboring networks, and lowers round-trip latency. A Wi-Fi analyzer app helps verify the real-world impact rather than relying on guesswork.
