# I built an Architecture Intelligence tool for React & Next.js during the OpenAI Build Week Hackathon

## Summary

Arcovia is an open-source architecture intelligence tool for React and Next.js projects, built during the OpenAI Build Week Hackathon. It performs deterministic static analysis — parsing projects, building dependency graphs, and evaluating architecture rules — to produce an interactive HTML report with an architecture health score, hotspot detection, maintenance burden metrics, and actionable findings. AI was used to accelerate development but not to make architectural judgments. The author is seeking feedback from developers working on medium-to-large React codebases on what architectural issues to detect and how to measure architecture health.

## Content

This weekend, I participated in the **OpenAI Build Week Hackathon** and decided to build something I'd wanted for a long time.

Most tools help us improve **code quality**. They point out lint errors, unused variables, or formatting issues.

I wanted a tool that helps answer a different set of questions:

- Is my project architecture healthy?
- Which modules are becoming architectural bottlenecks?
- Where should I prioritize refactoring?
- Why did this project receive its architecture score?

That became **Arcovia**.

Instead of relying on AI to review code, Arcovia performs **deterministic analysis**. It parses your React or Next.js project, builds a dependency graph, evaluates architecture rules, and generates an interactive HTML report with:

- Architecture Health Score
- Dependency Graph
- Architecture Hotspots
- Explainable Score Breakdown
- Maintenance Burden
- Actionable Findings

One design decision I'm particularly happy with is separating the analysis from AI.

The architecture analysis itself is deterministic and reproducible. AI helped me **build the product**, but it isn't responsible for deciding whether your architecture is good or bad.

Building this over a single weekend was also my first experience using **GPT-5.6 and Codex as engineering collaborators**. They helped me iterate much faster on the architecture, scoring engine, reports, and developer experience. I also used ChatGPT Images to create the branding and mascot.

The project is now open source, but I'm not posting this just to share it. I'm looking for feedback from developers who work on medium or large React codebases.

Some questions I'd love your thoughts on:

- What architectural issues would you want a tool like this to detect?
- How would you measure architecture health?
- Would an architecture score influence your refactoring priorities?

If you're interested in taking a look:

I'd genuinely appreciate any feedback, ideas, or criticism. The project is still in its early stages, and real-world usage will help shape where it goes next.
