A home lab enthusiast built a small ESP32 + OLED display to monitor NAS drive temperatures after discovering enterprise SAS drives (Seagate Exos 7E8s) hitting 60°C when poorly positioned in a Fractal Define 7 XL case. Since Proxmox doesn't surface SMART temperature data on its dashboard, a lightweight script on the host polls smartctl and serves drive temps as JSON over the local network. The ESP32 fetches this payload over Wi-Fi and displays it with threshold alerts. The project is functional but still needs a proper enclosure and could be improved by also monitoring the LSI HBA card temperature.
