I ditched Claude Projects for a self-hosted setup that costs nothing and does more

A personal workflow combining Fabric (a CLI tool for running reusable system prompts), a local LLM via LM Studio, and Obsidian as a knowledge base to replicate Claude Projects functionality offline at no cost. Fabric's pre-written Patterns handle prompt instructions, the -o flag pipes outputs as markdown files directly into an Obsidian vault, and the vault's folder structure provides the persistent context layer that Fabric itself lacks. The result is a free, offline-capable alternative to Claude Projects for tasks like summarizing research, extracting key points, and processing transcripts.
