# I feel lost on AI

**[DEV](https://daily.dev/sources/devto)** · 4 min read · 289 upvotes · 30 comments

## Summary

A 26-year veteran programmer from Mexico shares his honest emotional struggle with AI coding agents. While he appreciates Copilot as a productivity booster, he feels disoriented and empty when using agentic tools like Claude Code and Amazon Kiro to fully delegate coding tasks. He describes a personal experiment running two projects simultaneously — one coded manually with Copilot, one delegated to Claude Code — and reflects on the tension between efficiency gains and the loss of the craft he loves. The post resonates with many developers who feel the same but rarely admit it publicly.

> Delegating coding responsibilities to AI - and detaching from the coding process yet focusing on the actual architecture itself - is very similiar to evolving into a managerial role with a team of engineers. It's not for everyone; some people definitely prefer to stay "in the weeds" as it were, but there's a place for people who prefer either paradigm.

> As someone starting in the tech industry, I feel more motivated than ever. No one can predict what will happen in the future. But I do know that if I keep up on being a great developer, then all will be well.

> Amen. I feel exactly the same. You're not alone. Another "old" guy here.
